B.V. Farmakovsky — the largest Russian (Soviet) Classical world and art historian, organizer of science of the late XIX — first third of the XX century. In the Manuscript Department of the Scientific Archive of the Institute of history of Material Culture of RAS a number of documents are preserved, which cover the development of Russian (Soviet) studies on Ancient Orient, Classical art and archaeology: two speeches of Pharmakovski in memory of the B.A. Turayev, recommendation letters to S.A. Zhebelyev and O.F. Waldhauer to the Russian Academy of History of Material Culture. These documents are important as a source of information for the reconstruction of Russian historical science in general and scientific biographies of the scholars in particular.
