The purpose of the study is to establish the influence of the tradition in relation to the silver coin on the peculiarities of monetary circulation, as well as to introduce into scientific circulation an unusual treasure of dirhams found in the area of the archaeological site of Prisyrdarya Bozok in 2014. During the study of the treasure of Chaghatayid dirhams of the late XIII — early XIV centuries, there were found 117 coins in its composition, including the presence of 12 of their fragments. This is an unusual fact for the conversion of Chaghatayid dirhams, which has not previously been noted in the scientific literature. Isolated finds of fragments of the same dirhams indicate their use in coin circulation. It is established that this is due to the ancient tradition of breaking silver coins and using these fragments in monetary circulation. The article describes in detail the composition of the treasure that was found in the area of the archaeological site of Prisyrdarya Bozok. Hiding the treasure took place q. 700/1301—1302.

Key words: Chaghatayid State, Southern Kazakhstan, XIII—XIV centuries, numismatics of the East, treasure, coin, dirham, coin circulation.
